Sammy Santillano Div. 5 AA 2nd Team All-CIF

Sammy Santillano led the Lancers to an overall record of 18-9 in the 09-10 season. He did this by averaging 13.6 points per game with 63 3 pointers made. He was voted onto the All-Tournament Team in both the Covina and Webb Tournaments.

Sammy also led his team to a hard earned Christian League Championship. After an easy first round win, there would be a battle in the 2nd round of the CIF playoffs againts Santa Clara. The Ventera County Star news wrote, “Western Christian found a hot hand in Sammy Santillano, who scored all of the Fighting Lancers points in a 14-2 run. By the end of the third quarter, Western Christian owned a 47-46 lead.” But the Lancers would fall short in the closing minutes and end their playoff run.

For his efforts this season, Sammy was honored by being selected onto the Div. 5 AA 2nd Team All-CIF. We would like to congratulate him and his team for their success this season.

Lancer Baseball Wins First of Round CIF Playoffs

Congratulations to the boys baseball team. Yesterday the #6 ranked Lancers beat previously top 10 ranked Santa Ynez 7-0 in the first round of the CIF playoffs. Senior CJ Beatty pitched a two hitter while recording 10 strikeouts against a very good hitting Pirate team. Senior Aaron Opsvig go the Lancers on the board with a 2 out double to score Senior Andrew Sinner after he stole 2nd base to get into scoring position. Beatty then added a two run home run in the 5th inning to expand the Lancer lead to 3-0, plating Junior Darrell Rice who singled and stole 2nd base. The Lancers added 4 more on that inning. Every single person in the lineup contributed in a big way yesterday.

Western Christian will travel to #9 ranked Campbell Hall (North Hollywood) on Tuesday May 25th for a 3:15P 2nd round game. Please pray for the boys health and injuries as well as their ability to stay focused and glorify God in this process.

Chapel on Wed. May 19th & Thurs. May 20th

Brett Kunkle, an apologist from Stand to Reason, will be speaking in chapel on Wednesday, May 19th & Thursday May 20th about ideas (worldviews) students will face once theyleave the safety of a Christian environment and step onto the college campus. In addition, there will be a resource table with books, CDs, etc available for purchase equipping students to defend their faith.

Brett Kunkle

Brett Kunkle is passionate about seeing people “transformed by the renewing of their minds” and trains both adults and students to apply the Christian worldview to every area of their lives. As Student Impact Director at Stand to Reason, he has created a one-of-a-kind training experience that immerses participants in real-life apologetics, theology, and evangelism. Brett is a regular guest host of STR’s weekly radio show.
