City of Hope Toy Drive

Posted on December 3rd, 2009

The WCS Middle School Community Service class will be collecting gifts for the children in the Pediatrics ward of the City of Hope Hospital.    If you would like to help, please bring a new unwrapped toy for children between the ages of 2-14.  We will place a box in each of the Claremont classrooms this week. Toys  the children can enjoy by themselves, or with their families while in the hospital, are best.  Some possible gift ideas: board games, dolls, toy cars, action figures, Bibles, Devotionals, books, DVD’s, or electronic hand-held games.  Collection for these items will end December 16th.

We will place a box in the high school office, to bring our campuses together in this effort.

Thank you for your help and may God bless you and your family as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ!

A day of giving at Western Christian School

A day of giving recently occurred at Western Christian School.

After a memo from principal Michelle Browning was sent out to families explaining how the food pantry was low and needed turkeys to feed families in the community for Thanksgiving, dozens of turkeys were given from families.

Browning also sent a memo asking families if they had any fruit trees in their yard and would like to donate them to Montclair’s “Kid Kare Food Pantry” to share the produce with the hungry and many people signed up to pick fruit off the trees.

La Verne Police Chief Scott Pickwith also visited the Claremont school on the day of giving after an eighth grade Bible class selected him as a leader they wanted to “encourage and pray for,” according to a news release from the school at 3105 Padua Ave.

After being greeted in a “student tunnel” where students cheered and wanted to shake his hand, he told them about his background, family and professional life.

Pickwith also explained how students could help in the communities.

The day of giving was Nov. 19.

Students from the Western Christian middle school in Claremont spent Tuesday morning decorating a Christmas tree at George M. Gibson Senior Center.

The students arrived about 9:30 a.m. and decorated the tree, sang holiday songs and passed out gifts.

“We’re trying to do a lot more outreach in our community for our kids to really learn about serving and how important it is to be involved in the community,” said Karen Winter, superintendent of Western Christian Schools.

Western Christian Schools administrators have been organizing outreach opportunities for the students. Students from Western Christian High School in Upland will be decorating a Christmas tree at Upland City Hall between noon and 2 p.m. today.

Article from DailyBulletin.com

UPLAND – A year ago, the Upland Christian and Western Christian boys cross country teams were pretty good.Western Christian made it to the Division 5 prelims, where they finished 10th as a team (only the top five advanced) and Caleb Meister advanced to finals as an individual.

Upland Christian was fifth in its prelim heat and advanced to finals, but finished 16th (last) at finals.

On their own, they were respectable.

Together, they’re one of the best Division 5 teams in the state.
