Christian League Meet #2 @ Sylvan Park 10/13/09:
On Tuesday, the Lancer XC team traveled to Sylvan Park for our second of 4 regular season league meets. It was gloomy and overcast, and had rained all day, but God allowed for the meet to go on despite the conditions. It was a very successful day for us, and I’m very proud of how the team competed. The only team we scored was boys varsity, and we did very well. We not only came in first in the Christian league, but we also came in first overall in the meet (the Big Sky and Majestic leagues also race with us). Here is a team recap:
Team Results:
Western Christian 23
Xavier Prep 50
Ontario Christian School 78
Aquinas94
Arrowhead Christian Academy 124
Bethel Christian School 177
Eric Garcia (1st place, 16:24)-Eric did his job and got us that coveted 1 point. He mixed it up with the Woodcrest boys, and unfortunately got beat in the last mile. As soon as we can get him to close well in the last mile and keep his form together, he will have a breakout race. He is definitely in 15:30 shape.
Caleb Meister (2nd place, 16:35)-Caleb is quietly becoming Mr. Dependable this season. I can always count on him to have a solid race and help us as a team. He has also matured a lot as a runner, and he looked very comfortable and confident during the race. He is in phenomenal shape, and I think he is going to have a breakout race really soon, hopefully at Mt. Sac. He ran 37 seconds better than he did last year at this same race.
Jon Esparza (3rd place, 16:35)-Jon and Caleb basically finished side by side, and they really worked together well during the race. He has been a great 2 or 3 runner all year, and his training has been going great. He looks poised to run an amazing race next week at Mt. Sac.
Thomas “Beats Aquinas” Mutch (7th place, 17:28)-Thomas has stepped up in the last few races, and at the perfect time too. With a couple of guys having some rough races recently, we needed someone to step up and stop the bleeding, and Thomas has done just that. You can see that he has gained a lot of confidence over the last few weeks, and gives our team a little depth now.
Christian Mora (10th, 17:42)-This race was a lot better than our first league meet. Christian psyched himself out last week, and this week he was a lot more calm and relaxed, which is the best way to race. He ran with Thomas and Ben for the first 2 miles, just like I asked him to. I think he has gained a little confidence, and will continue to make big leaps with each race. We will need him and Thomas to step up big time for this team to go far this year.
Ben Rinard (12th place, 18:06)-Ben looked great the first 2 miles of the race, then struggled a bit in the last mile. He still ran 1:05 faster than he did last year at this race, but he has a lot left in the tank. He has some stomach issues today, and hopefully we can get that figured out. He is in phenomenal shape right now, and has ran more that most people from the summer all the way to this point. We will need him to step up as a senior and help lead this team in order for us to go far.
Tim Boore (15th place, 18:26)-Tim was sick for most of last week, and it showed a little today. He still ran pretty well, but he was struggling with his breathing because of the sickness. When we get him back to full strength, I think he will be running a lot faster. Solid effort for him today.
Brad Gustafson (4th place in JV race, 21:08)-Brad had great race. He really looked comfortable and confident out there, and you could tell that he was always looking to move up in the race. He was never content with where he was at, which is what you want to do. He kept his eye on the runners ahead of him, and caught a few of them. He is looking very fit right now, and I think he will keep improving every race from here on out.
Cody Brobston-Didn’t run today because of sickness all last week and beginning of this week. Will be back for next weeks league meet.
Ethan Semain-Finally back from injury. Just started running, but will be racing next week.
Nicole Dinisi (5th place, 20:43)-Great race for Nicole, truly a breakthrough I would say. She was running with so much confidence, you could tell she was focused and poised to move up the whole race. Very aggressive, and this was her best race of the year by far. She ran 3:28 faster than last year at this race!!! I am very excited to watch Nicole race, she looks so driven and ready to attack some girls. I believe she has ran more miles than anyone else in the league, and I think it’s beginning to show.
Hannah Cortez (21st place, 23:46)-Hannah had a pretty solid race, this was her second fastest time ever I believe (definitely of the season). Struggled with some side cramps during the race, but gutted it out and kept going, which shows great perseverance by her. He is also very fit right now, and if we can keep her ankle healthy, she will continue to improve.
Look for us next Tuesday, October 20, at AB Brown Soccer Complex in Riverside for League Meet #3!
