Senior Service Day 2009

On April 1st the Senior class gave back to their community for Senior Service Day.  Annually, the Seniors spend one day out of the year to help paint, scrape, organize, and assist in the needs of local organizations and schools.  This year, the students went to one of several sites: Serenity Foster Care, McKinley Children’s Center, the local YMCA, Pacific Lifeline Women’s Center, and Sonrise Christian Schools.  

The following is just one of the several notes expressing thanks for our Seniors’ efforts:

“Dear Jon, Just a quick note to express our sincere thanks for the absolutely AWESOME job by Western Christian Hich School’s  ”labor of love” crew!!  They all worked not stop (unitl the pizzas, that is!) and always asked for more assignments after they finished one!  Our enitre staff, children and families so appreciate the support of these great students AND the administration of  your school in promoting this activity.. Please feel free to come by to see the fruits of their labor at your convenience.. Alanna would love to give you the grand tour!  Blessings to all…Serenity.”

Once again, the students of Western have demonstrated their belief in Christ by serving others.

WCHS Students Awarded at ACSI Regional Science Fair

April 3, 2009 was a special day for WCHS as Charlie Pisuraj and Paige Park went to the ACSI Regional Science Fair which was held at Biola University in La Mirada. They each received a ribbon for their project.

This is the first year that Western Christian High School has participated. Charlie and Paige chose to do a team project in the Life Sciences. They were studying the effects of different colored light on the growth of Oregano. They used red green and white light to test their hypothesis.

So what were the results? Red light makes the oregano grow faster, but white light makes more oregano plants sprout overall. Green light made the oregano sprouts even brighter green in color!

Students and faculty alike got to experience a wide variety of the sciences at the fair. There were different demonstrations for everyone to see including a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and gas chromatography (burning gasoline to see what chemicals are in it). Read the rest of this entry »

Spring Sports Update 4/6/09

GOLF
Going into the beginning of our season we knew we had a young team and that our two returners were going to have to step it up and be the leaders. They have done just that and it’s exciting to see what the future holds for them and for the rest of our team. As our season has progressed our players have continued to mold together and have continued to improve with each match. Our team strongly believes every time we go out that we have the ability to go out and outperform our opponent. We look to end the season by surprising some teams and show that we can be a tremendous force in league. The team is currently 3-7 overall and 0-3 in league play

BASEBALL
Varsity baseball bounced back from a two game skid winning two games to improve to 7-4 and 2-1 in league. On Thursday the reigning league champion Lancers beat Aquinas 5-2 to take over first place in league. On Saturday they picked up a non league 9-5 win over Pasadena Poly. 2009 Prom: “Unlock The Magic”

This year’s Prom will be held at the Hidden Oaks Retreat Center on Friday April 24, 2009. Pictures will begin at 6:00pm. Dinner will be served at 7:00pm.

Congratulations to the 2009 WCHS Prom Court: Emanuel Mendoza, Danielle Hunt, Reed Covington, Rhianna Pierre, Brad Anderson, Ashlianne Taylor, RJ Pabon, Nikki Povero, Monty Tavis and Katy Surface.

Prom tickets will be available during lunch. Tuesday, April 7th through April 9th tickets will be $90 per ticket. After Spring break (last-minute shoppers) tickets will be $95 each.

A great deal of preparation has gone into planning this event, and the Junior Class Council officers have done an excellent job in assuring each student has an enjoyable evening. Please download the contracts belwo.  Western students, non-Western students, as well as parents (guardians) are to sign and return contracts at time of ticket purchase. Please direct any questions to the Junior Class Council or Ms. Maulorico. 

We’re excited about the upcoming Parent-Sponsored Prom Dance that will be held at the Hidden Oaks Retreat Center on Friday April 24, 2009. We’re looking forward to seeing all of you there. The Dance will begin at approximately 9:00pm and will conclude at 12:00am.
