The spring sports season in under way and all of the teams are off to a strong start. The Golf team led by new Head Coach David Mylar opened their season at 2-2. The Lancers suffered a pair of losses to Maranatha 283 to 212 at Brookside Country Club and again at Mountain Meadows two days later 254 to 211. Western Christian bounced back the next week to post victories of 271 to 296 and 245 to 268 against the Falcons of Duarte High School. The Lancers compete again three times this week with a match on Monday March 16th at Mountain Meadows, Wednesday March 18th at DeBelle Golf Course, and Thursday March 19th at Westwinds Golf Course in Victorville.

Lancer Varsity Softball played in the Loma Linda Academy tournament last week. The tournament was held on the beautiful fields at The Oaks on the Soboba Indian reservation in San Jacinto. The Lancers went 2-2 in the tournament losing to San Bernardino High School 9-4, beating Linfield Christian 5-4, losing to Aquinas 11-1 and finishing strong with a win over Mesa Grande Academy 13-3.Senior shortstop Nikki Povero received all-tournament honors. The final game of the week was the Lancers first home game of the season against Rio Hondo Prep. The ladies beat Rio Hondo 3-2 in 7 innings and ended their first week of play 3-2. This is the best start for the softball program in several years.

Track and Field opened up on Saturday at Azusa Pacific University in the Cougar Classic. This was the team’s first time attending an invite of this magnitude. Coach Henning has revitalized the program with participation numbers up and through hard work and donations he has added events to the program that the Lancers have not competed in for years. There is much excitement surrounding the program and the team is being exposed to what big time track and field looks like. The boys and girls will compete again on Saturday March 21st at Chino H.S. in the Ontario Christian Invitational.

Varsity Baseball opened their 2009 campaign with an 11-3 win over El Monte H.S. on Friday March 6th in the Arcadia Elks Tourney. The next day they faced off against Arcadia H.S., Division II power and #1 ranked in the San Gabriel Valley. After battling to a 0-0 game through the third inning the Lancers dropped the contest 0-8. The boys rebounded with a 5-3 win over Mountain View H.S. on Tuesday and then dropped a very exciting 3-2 contest on Thursday to Division II Pasadena H.S. The Lancers are off to 2-2 start and open league on Tuesday March 17th at Loma Linda Academy. They play a non league game at John Glen on Thursday March 19th and are back in league at home at Citrus College on Saturday vs. Ontario Christian.
