Lancer Family,
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. All of Fall Sports have come to and end and now Winter Sports are under way. It was a good fall for our teams as they all finished .500 or better. I want to again thank the writers who have contributed the information for the fall. He is how the Fall wrapped up
Cross Country
The boys finished very well under new Head Coach Sean Henning. Their third place finish in league earned them a birth into the CIF Prelims at Mt. SAC. Caleb Meister ran a personal best and took a second place finish in league earning him 1st Team All-League Honors. Ben Rinard ran well all season and also finished with 1st Team All-League Honors. On the girls side Kara Quintana was names to the 1st Team All-League as well for her valiant efforts. The big story was Meister’s 7th place finish in the CIF Prelims as he became WC first runner in many years to qualify for the CIF Finals Meet also held at Mt. SAC. He had his sites set on qualifying for state, but the Junior runner just fell short. He has already begun training despite next season being 9 months away as Meister is determined to make it to STATE in 09.

Lady Lancers Awarded Christian League Sportsmanship Award
WCHS 08/09 Lady Lancers Volleyball came to a finale with an incredible banquet on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at San Dimas Canyon Country Club. Players, coaches, parents, grandparents and siblings came together one last time to recap the past season.
First up, the JV team started the evening with a slide show by Sophomore Setter Alexa Cordero’s father, Mr. Cordero recapping their season which culminated in their 2nd place League finish. Coach Missy Perlman and Assistant Coach Heidi Holmes offered little tidbits of comical insite to each of the girls personalities. Individual honors went to:
Lady Lancer Award Christina Oka, Freshman
Most Improved Player Hannah Rhinehart, Freshman
Service Point Award Alexa Cordero, Sophomore
Offensive Player Jasmine Lara, Sophomore
Defensive Player Stephanie Yeung, Junior
Team MVP Stephanie Yeung, Junior
The Varsity team finished the evening with a video slide show put together by Freshman Middle Blocker Emily Beaton’s father, Mr. Beaton. The video showed snippits of games for each player highlighting some awesome kills, digs, blocks, and assists. The Varsity Ladies ended up taking fourth place in League standings. Coach Dawn Bartholomew and Assistant Coach Kass McInteer pointed out key situations during the season that gave them an insight of each player’s love for the game and the team. Individual honors were given to:
Lady Lancer Award Kelsey Doolittle, Junior
Service Point Award Lyndsey Carruthers, Freshman
Most Improved Player Chelsea Cramer, Junior
Defensive Player Christina Mao, Senior
Team MVP Taylor Pierini, Sophomore
In addition, League awards were received by:
1st Team All League Taylor Pierini, Sophomore
2nd Team All League Chelsea Cramer, Junior
2nd Team All League Christina Mao, Senior
Finally, the Lady Lancers were honored by the League with the Christian League Sportsmanship Award. This award is given to the team which personifies Christian values throughout the season as voted by the league coaches. Congratulations to our ladies.
FOOTBALL
Varsity Football ended the season at 5-5 for their first .500 or better season in 6 years. In the final game they put up 33 points in a losing effort to Ontario Christian. Quarterback Alex Beaton found another favorite target in Sophomore wide out Christian Solis. Solis complimented other wide outs Reed Covington, Jorge Perez, and Robert Wiley very well. According to CIF the Lancers finished one slot out of the playoff picture. CIF phoned early on Saturday morning after our last game asking WC for an at large bid, but the stars would not align for the Lancers in 08. We do have a very young team that bodes well for next season. The Lancers did secure a number of All-League spots, but those cannot yet be released until after the banquet.
The Junior Varsity really finished the season strong after opening the season 0-4. They managed to convincingly win 4 of their last six contests for a 4-6 finish.
