BIG WIN AGAINST WEST COVINA
The Lady Lancers Volleyball teams started up again after an 11 day layoff. If you were there to see our ladies take the floor, then you saw some exciting games. Varsity had 2 games this week and posted 8 double-digit player numbers for kills, digs, & assists. These are AWESOME feats that will be individually recognized further in this article. They are ready to take on the League beginning with our first league home game on Tuesday, 10/7 against Pomona Catholic at home (Royal Oak gym). JV game time is at 5:15 & Varsity is at 6:15.
In Varsity’s home game against Southlands on October 1, the offensive line of Senior Alyssa Stephenson, Juniors Jessica Arguelles, Chelsea Cramer & Kelsey Doolittle , Sophomore Taylor Pierini, and Freshmen Emily Beaton & Lyndsey Carruthers led the WC effort with 37 kills! Junior Chelsea Cramer had 29 assists in this game. Our defensive line hustled with 30 digs overall led by Senior Christina Mao with 16. The ladies took the game in three sets. On Friday, WC Varsity traveled to West Covina High School to take on the Bulldogs. The Varsity ladies fought a hard battle with many exciting volley matches. The games were tied at 2 & 2 and came down to the 5th game playoff. The Western ladies went to work and came out on top winning the tie breaker 15 – 9. Sophomore Taylor Pierini had an unprecedented triple-double meaning that in 3 categories she had more than 10 possible points. She had 14 kills, 22 assists, and 11 digs. It’s difficult to double in one category. Three is tremendous! Taylor was assisted on the court by Junior Chelsea Cramer with 16 assists, Senior Katy Surface with 20 digs and Freshman Lyndsey Carruthers with 17 digs. The team overall had 43 kills, 70 digs, and 40 assists. These were quite some games!
Jr.Varsity had an equally exciting game against the Jr. Bulldogs but lost against them in 2 sets. Sophomore Alexa Cordero had 12 assists. The offensive line of Freshmen Hannah Rhinehart, Amanda Perez & Leah Dorsey, Sophomore Jasmine Lara & Junior Vicky Rorex had a combined 15 kills. A solid defensive line was again held by Junior Stephanie Yeung and Freshman Christina Oka.
