Covina, CA In the spring Western Christian hired new Head Football Coach Rob Castaneda to take over and revitalize the once prominent Lancer program. Coach Castaneda comes to the Lancers with 23 years of coaching experience in the San Gabriel Valley along with three C.I.F. title rings. His latest ring came last season as one of the Offensive Coordinators at local power St. Paul High School. In those 23 years he has coached in just about every capacity possible. He also works as a personal quarterbacks and receivers trainer on the side. Athletic Director Mark Gabbard exclaimed, “He (Rob Castaneda) is finally the balance that we have been looking for. We have been looking for someone with vast local experience who has had much success. He is a person that embodies our athletic philosophy of mixing spirituality, toughness, and a passion to win. We believe that we have to establish excellence if people are going to listen to what we have to say and Coach Castaneda fits into this philosophy well.” As the quarterbacks and offensive coach in last year’s 40th Annual 605 All Star game he helped lead the East team to a victory.
Coach Castaneda’s local connections have paid off in dividends as Western Christian will bolster their largest and most experienced coaching staff ever. Having someone that is able to focus quality instruction at each position will put the men in a good position to experience success. He will be joined by long time friend Joe Campbell who will work as game coordinator and operate the special teams. The staff will account for 13 coaches in all. “I am a Christian that after all of these years of coaching, I wanted to come to a school that has the vision for greatness,” explained Castaneda “and people who are working to build something big both spiritually and athletically. This is such a place and we will get there.”
Coach Castaneda has been married to his wife Stephanie for 22 years. He has two sons, Timothy (21) and Matt (19), and two daughters Kimberly (17) and Sidney (8).
