All C.I.F. Winter Selections
Stay true and focus on the process. We are in the process of building championship programs. Before we get going on the Spring update we need to recognize Sophomore Jeremy Bishop for earning his selection to the Second Team All-C.I.F. for soccer as well as Senior Donnie McWhirter for his selection to the Third Team All-C.I.F. Good job men! Senior Aundrea Hyde scored three points on Saturday (April 19th) in the San Gabriel Valley All Star Basketball game. Thank you for representing THE WC with passionate play!

Spring Sports Update:

Baseball
LANCERS TAKE SEASON SERIES FROM ONTARIO CHRISTIAN IN DOMINANT FASHION

Varsity: two weeks ago THE WC struggled with injuries and dropped two league games to Aquinas wrapping up that series with 2 losses and 1 win. The losses dropped the Lancers to third place in league with a 3-3 record. In the Tuesday game (April 8th) Junior RJ Pabon had a stellar outing on the mound only giving up one run in six innings of work, but the Lancer bats were not there to help him out. Last week the men bounced back with everyone healthy and beat league leading Ontario Christian Twice dropping them to third place. In their first match up back on March 18th OC won 1-0 in the last inning. This time the Lancers made a statement in taking the season series 2-1. On Tuesday (April 15th) Senior Mark Reynoso struck out 12 Knights in a complete game shutout and went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, and 2 RBIs. In the 11-0 win Junior Robert Wiley scored 3 runs and collected 3 hits. Every Lancer in the line up recorded at least one hit; Freshman Mark McMahon had two and Sophomore CJ Beatty had 2 including a double. In a huge game with playoff and League Championship implications at Ontario Christian on Thursday (April 17th) the Lancers brought it again in a 7-0 win that propelled them into second place and only one game back of Aquinas with four to play. Junior Daniel Sutton threw a complete game shutout and leaned on some stellar defense as he took a no hitter into the sixth inning before giving up a one out single. He only allowed 3 hits total on the day and improved to 4-2 on the mound. Mark Reynoso was again 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs (6 for 6 on the week; hitting .587 for the season). Daniel Sutton added two hits and 2 RBIs of his own. CJ Beatty drove in two runs as well. THE WC is now 5-3 in league in second place and 10-9 overall.

Junior Varsity: two weeks ago THE JV WC swept the season series with Aquinas with two wins improving to 5-1 in league. On Tuesday (April 15th) they lost to Ontario Christian before bouncing back and beating the Knights 10-5 on Thursday (April 17th). Sophomore David Curtis threw a complete game gem in front of a stellar defense for the win. The JV Lancers have only committed 1 error in four games. Hitters of note are: Freshman Sang Ha Lee (home run against OC), Freshman Brennan Decenna, Freshman Darrell Rice, Freshman Tyler Van Amberg, and Sophomore Jacob Urrutia. These young men led the offensive charge for a team that has gone 5-1 since Spring Break. Defensively Freshman Tyler Wilkinson has helped solidify a good outfield. The JV is now 6-2 a tied for first in league. They are 8-4 overall.

LANCERS LOOKING GOOD FOR SECOND SPOT IN C.I.F. PLAYOFFS

This Lady and Gentlemen are still getting the job done. Coach Ernie Hernandez has built a team that takes the program serious and strives to be excellent. As of today THE WC is 8-4 overall and sit in second place in league at 4-3. On March 31st the team lost to league leading Ontario Christian 226 to 254. On April 2nd the Lancers rebounded and beat a tough Loma Linda team 224 to 231. A week later they avenged a league opening loss to Arrowhead Christian with a 20 stroke win (236 to 256) over the Eagles. On April 14th Western Christian swept the season series against Aquinas with a 211 to 235 win before dropping again to Ontario Christian on April 16th; OC had four golfers shoot in the 30s which is amazing. The scores are as follows:

OC 3/31: Senior Brandon Greiner 48; Senior Donnie McWhirter 49; Sophomore Su In-Park 47, Freshman Michael Broad 58 and Sophomore Kandace Delgado 52.

Loma Linda 4/2: Senior Brandon Greiner 41; Senior Donnie McWhirter 45; Sophomore Su In-Park 43, Freshman Michael Broad 44 and Sophomore Kandace Delgado 51.

ACA 4/9: Senior Brandon Greiner 45; Senior Donnie McWhirter 41; Sophomore Su In-Park 48, Freshman Michael Broad 47 and Sophomore Kandace Delgado 55.

Aquinas 4/14: Senior Brandon Greiner 41; Senior Donnie McWhirter 39; Sophomore Su In-Park 44, Freshman Michael Broad 42 and Sophomore Kandace Delgado 45.

OC 4/16: No Report.

Softball
Varsity: the ladies have opened up league 0-4 and every single game has been close. On April 8th they lost their opener to #2 C.I.F. ranked Aquinas 2-1. They led most of the game 1-0 before giving up single runs in the 5th and 6th innings. On April 10th they lost to Ontario Christian 5-2. On April 15th a tough 1-3 loss to Loma Linda led to another close 2-0 loss to league leading Pomona Catholic. The ladies are in a tough league and they are just falling short with a young core of talent. We apologize for not recognizing players by name, but no stats have been submitted to Max Preps.

Junior Varsity: With the young core of talent on varsity coupled with a win producing JV squad the near future is bright for softball. The JV Ladies are 3-0 and in first place in league play with wins over Ontario Christian, Loma Linda, and a 30-2 slugfest over Aquinas. Coach B recognizes Freshman Jasmine Lara as a workhorse both in the circle and at the plate. In league she is hitting over .400 with 10 RBIs and is 3-0 as a pitcher. These ladies are playing very well and their extremely tough non league schedule looks to be paying off. They are 5-6 overall and looking to make a run a JV league title.
