Spring Sports Update

GOLF
Before leaving for break Western Christian beat Aquinas in a league match 219 to 255. This moved the team to 1-1 in league and 6-1 overall. Against Aquinas the team scored as follows:

SOFTBALL
Varsity: on Friday (March 14th) the ladies defeated Rio Hondo Prep 8-3. The next day they suffered 11-0 loss to Glendora before taking a week break and getting ready to head into another tough Arroyo Grand Tourney. Despite going 0-3 the ladies competed with the big schools. On the 28th they lost to Arroyo Grand 7-4. The next day they dropped a 7-3 game to San Luis Obispo and in their second game of the day they lost to Royal 5-1. Junior Rayna Bowen was an astounding 8 for 9 on the week with 8 RBIs. The ladies are now 3-10 on the season and have one more non league game before heading into Christian League play next week.

JV: the JV ladies were idle over the break and continue play this week.

BASEBALL
Varsity: before the break the men beat Loma Linda (March 20th) 19-1 in a league contest. They collected 19 hits and were led by Junior Aaron Reynoso’s 3 for 3 effort along with 5 RBIs. Sophomore CJ Beatty was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs of his own. Freshman Mark McMahon improved his record to 3-0 on the mound while only surrendering 1 hit in five innings of work. The men then headed into what proved to be an overwhelming Atascadero Spring Break Tourney. In game one they were bruised on Monday (March 24th) by Division III power St. Francis 12-2 and used a slue of pitchers to no avail. The next Morning they again suffered a big loss to Division II Nipomo also by a score of 12-2. In the second game of the double header the men rebounded to beat Santa Clara 11-4 before again losing to Nipomo by a score of 11-2. McMahon again picked up the win on mound pushing his record to 4-0. Junior Robert Wiley had a big week at the plate going 6 for 12 with 5 runs scored. The men are now 6-7 on the season and 2-1 in Christian League play.

JV: the JV men were idle over the break, but did pick up a win against Loma Linda to move to 2-1 in league play and 3-3 overall. Sophomore David Curtis and Freshman Darrel Rice have provided some stability on the mound along with Freshman Andrew Sutton.
