"Without a doubt, the most powerful influences on me at Western have been my teachers. Even more than WHAT I learned; I cherish HOW I learned and WHO taught me. They have unselfishly and passionately poured into me and I am eternally grateful! The faces and memories are too numerous-to pick a favorite leaves out so many... I love them all!"

Seniors CJ Beatty and Troy Brown Selected to All Valley Team

Posted on June 29th, 2010

The awards for the 2010 Lancer baseball team kept coming last week as Senior CJ Beatty was selected to the 2nd Team All Valley and Senior Troy Brown was selected to the 3rd Team All Valley. The list is compiled of the best players in the Inland Valley and it does not discriminate between divisions.

Senior Troy Brown

Brown was a stalwart centerfielder for Western Christian who came to the Lancers as a transfer from Alta Loma. Defensively he was outstanding the entire year making great play after great play. His ability to track down balls in the gap frustrated opponents the entire season not to mention his knack for the diving catch.
Offensively, Brown was a difference making addition to the lineup as he hit .463 on the year and led the team with 39 runs batted in as he led the charge for the Lancers 3rd straight league title. According to Head Coach Mark Gabbard, “we have traditionally had very good centerfielders here, league MVP’s even. Troy has carried on that legacy and has put himself good company. He is one of the better ones I have coached at the college and high school level.”

Senior CJ Beatty

Senior CJ Beatty will add his 2nd Team All Valley award to a long list of others he has achieved in his high school career:

• 2008 (Sophomore) 1st Team All-CIF and 1st Team All-League
• 2009 (Junior) 1st Team All-League and League Pitcher of the Year
• 2010 (Senior) 1st Team All-CIF, League MVP, and Inland Valley All-Star

Beatty leaves the Lancer program as the most highly decorated baseball player in recent history and possibly ever. He has accepted an invitation to play at Azusa Pacific University next year where he will most notably receive a free education.

CJ Beatty Selected League MVP and ALL-CIF DIV. 5 1st Team

Posted on June 24th, 2010

CJ Beatty League MVP

Senior Captain CJ Beatty has continued the tradition of baseball excellence as he became the 7th Lancer in the last five years to be selected to the ALL CIF Team. According the June 21 press release by the CIF Southern Section office, he was honored on the 2010 Division 5 All-CIF First Team. He was also unanimously selected by the league’s coaches as the 3rd consecutive Lancer, and 4th in five years, to be chosen as the Christian League Most Valuable Player to go along with his 2009 League Pitcher of the Year honor.

This marks the second time Beatty was selected to the 1st team in his three year Varsity career as a Lancer. He was first given the honor in his 2008 sophomore campaign putting up astonishing numbers for a first time Varsity player. In his 2009 junior season the numbers were more impressive, while he humbly celebrated two of teammates receiving ALL-CIF bids.

Beatty’s return to the ALL-CIF team is only the fourth time a Western Christian baseball player has repeated the honor and the first time in the school’s 90 year history someone has repeated the first team. In both the 1991 and 1992 seasons infielder Mark Rogers was selected to the ALL-CIF 2nd Team. In 1964 Stephen Tange and Tom Orr were selected to the 2nd Team and then the 1st team in 1965.

While leading his team to three consecutive league titles en route to an impressive 21-5 season and a #6 ranking, Beatty’s individual statistics are what garnished him the ALL-CIF honor. Offensively he batted .478 on the year with 43 hits, 10 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs, 34 RBI’s, 35 runs scored and 9 stolen bases. On the mound he posted a 2.10 ERA in 70 innings pitches, giving up 38 hits, and striking out 98 batters while boasting a 9-3 record.

Chelsea Cramer named to the Inland Valley High School All Star Team

Chelsea Cramer named to the Inland Valley High School All Star Team

2010 Senior shortstop Chelsea Cramer has been a Varsity Lady Lancer since she joined the team as a Freshman in 2007 where she started at 1st base. As a Sophomore, she started at 2nd, but due to an ankle injury suffered by starting shortstop Nikki Povero, Chelsea was moved to shortstop where she made some amazing plays. She earned the MVP title for the team that year, as well as a place on 2nd Team All League. As a Junior, she started again at 2nd and made a great pairing with Nikki at short. Both Chelsea and Nikki shared MVP honors and Chelsea was again named to 2nd Team All League. In her final year as a Senior, Chelsea led our team in batting with a 467 overall average and a 983% fielding average. She was also one of our pitchers and had a 1.01 ERA with a 6-2 record.

This week, Chelsea was named to the Inland Valley High School All Star Team representing Western Christian softball for the first time since the move to our new school. The softball game is scheduled for Monday, June 7, at Mira Loma’s Field of Dreams where Chelsea will join other players from schools ranging from San Dimas to Fontana in Divisions 1 – 7.
