| English 12 AP is a rigorous survey of British literature through the 20th century. The course provides an extensive study of British literature, poetry analysis, composition and a survey of literature from Gilgamesh through the 20th century. Emphasis is placed on developing critical judgment through reading analytically and writing and composing critical papers. All students enrolled are encouraged to take the AP examination in literature and composition, given in May. College credit may be granted for competency on this examination. Summer reading is required. Textbooks will be purchased by students. | ||

| Spanish 4 emphasizes the mastery and application of all grammatical rules. It requires more advanced reading of modern and classical Spanish literature, as well as a continuing focus on oral and written expression. It is designed to form the basis for advanced work in literature and science. Continued readings and discussion of Spanish culture are essential. The course is conducted entirely in Spanish. | ||

| United States History AP is designed to take the student beyond the high school level and act as preparation for intermediate college level course work. The course uses a college text, and is constructed according to the Advanced Placement guidelines in order to prepare the students to successfully take and pass the AP U.S. History test. Students will examine the same topics as the regular government class at an accelerated pace and with greater in-depth study. The course uses a college text, and is constructed according to the Advanced Placement guidelines. All students enrolled are encouraged to take the AP examination, given in May. | Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes that it undergoes. It is the branch of science that connects biology to physics and everything in between! This class differs from the other science offerings at WCHS because it utilizes a college level textbook and has a much stronger lab emphasis. Students will take the AP chemistry test in May and are expected to put forth their best effort during the exam to receive college credit. |

| English Honors 10 will continue the foundation needed for communicating ideas through vocabulary, reading, writing, and speaking. The class will cover selected works of British, American and world literature to enable students to analyze how literature reflects historical eras and social and philosophical conditions. Students will complete a research paper and read six novels and plays. Summer reading is required. | ||

| English 11 Honors is designed to prepare capable and highly motivated students to demonstrate their potential. Students will refine reading, vocabulary, grammar, and composition skills. After a review of short stories, poetry, and drama, the course will begin a chronological study of American literature and end with a critical review research project. Students will read ten novels and six plays throughout the course. Summer reading is required. | ||

| Honors Chemistry requires good math skills in applied algebra and geometry. The student will gain understanding in the areas of atomic theory, chemical reactions, liquids, periodic table, energy effects, the mole concept, reaction rates, equilibrium, solubility, acids and bases, oxidation reduction, electrons, chemical bonding, organic chemistry, molecular structure, and kinetic energy. Honors chemistry will cover these with a deeper level of study than regular ChemistryLab fee required. | ||

| World History Honors is a California state course that covers topics ranging from the emergence of civilizations in ancient Egypt to the political, social, and economic conditions following World War II. Throughout the course, students examine eight primary themes: politics and law, war and diplomacy, religion, philosophy, science, the arts, social relations, and cross-cultural interactions. The themes are reinforced through critical thinking exercises, weekly quizzes and tests, and projects that require students to use their abstract reasoning skills to personalize the material studied in class. Ultimately, World History Honors seeks to provide students with a thorough historical understanding that connects the details of the past with the events occurring in our modern world. | ||
| Prerequisites: In order to be accepted into the World History Honors Course students will need to have earned an “A” in Geography, Health and 9th Grade English. Students are also required to read and respond to four supplemental readings during the year that complement their coursework. | ||
